Your core blog has one main purpose to be a high traffic money making machine.
This is one blog that you will be updating constantly, driving in visitors and building yourself a reputation. This will then lead to making money from several different methods which Ill show you throughout this training series.
To give you just a few examples of what I am talking about here and what is easily possible, lets take a look at some examples:
https://www.tradebit.com You may have heard of this one already but the results are worth mentioning again. A two year old blog, updated just a few times a week and operated by ONE MAN was sold in 2012 for $15 Million.
https://www.tradebit.com - This blog is owned by Darren Rowse from https://www.tradebit.com and recently he has revealed he has turned down 3 offers of almost $1 Million each for his photography blog. Again, the blog is just 2 years old and he revealed that the potential buyers werent even interested in how much it was making or even how much traffic it was getting!
https://www.tradebit.com - Alborz Fallah started up this blog in his part time. It has since grown into one of the most popular blogs in Australia. Just this one simple blog brings in thousands of dollars each year, has been valued by capital investors at $5 Million and he has already turned down $1 Million offers to buy the blog.
https://www.tradebit.com - Lifehacker was started in 2012 by Gina Trapani. Since then it has grown to having over 7 Million page views a month and estimated to be making between $400,000 - $1 Million per year in revenue. Which means it has been given a selling value of $3 Million - $6 Million. Not bad for a blog that is only 3 years old!
https://www.tradebit.com - Again, started just 3 years ago was TechCrunch. It has grown to almost 1 Million RSS subscribers and is estimated to be earning $200,000 PER MONTH in revenue.
So just one blog CAN earn you 6-7 figures in just a few years. That is why I put the importance of building yourself a core blog.
This is the most important thing you will have to decide upon do you build a blog on something you are passionate about or something that you know will be profitable?
Well here is my take on this to help you decide:
You are going to be posting to your core blog several times a week. If you have a passion about the subject, this shouldnt be a chore it will be something you will enjoy.
However, if you have no knowledge about the subject and have to research each post then this can become tedious and you may lose focus and give up posting as often as you should.
Having said that, if you want to build a blog on a subject that you know would make a lot of money and have the resources to outsource your content creation, then go for that subject.
As long as you know there are other people interested in your chosen topic then I would say always go for passion over profit. Your posts will be much more focussed and targeted to your readers and they will connect with you far more easily. This means your blog will be more popular and when it comes time to monetize it, it will be far more beneficial.
So what are you really passionate about?
Obviously I dont know you as an individual, so its hard for me to tell you exactly what subject to choose. But think of something you enjoy talking about, maybe a hobby you enjoy doing, something you aspire to doing but never got around to doing it.
Whatever you choose, just choose something that you have at least a small amount of knowledge in and that you wouldnt mind writing several blog posts on each week.
A few examples would be:
Health Dieting, fitness, recipes, exercise
Your Occupation Can you share tips about your main skills?
Hobbies Cycling, running, swimming, football (soccer), baseball, crochet, sewing, fishing, golf, cooking, dancing, singing
Around The Home DIY, childcare tips, computers, electrical tips
These are just a few ideas to get you thinking.

Once you have your topic, its time to get your domain name. This is the name that people type into their browsers to find your blog, for example https://www.tradebit.com
The important thing here is to find something that is memorable, catchy and in some way describes your topic. You can use your name if you choose, as it is a great way to brand yourself.
Always try and get a .com if possible and I recommend you use either Godaddy or Namecheap to buy it.
What we are going to do is install WordPress, add the essential plugins and make it look nice with a premium theme.
This video shows how to install WordPress using the cPanel of your web host. If you dont have hosting yet, I highly recommend Hostgator:
Here are the settings that you should change once WordPress has been installed:
This video shows how to install new plugins and below it I have listed the plugins I recommend you to install:
Akismet This comes already installed when you create a new WordPress blog. It helps to reduce the amount of spam comments you receive.
Platinum SEO This plugin adds SEO functionality to your pages of content, such as adding META tags. If you dont know much about SEO, just install it and it will take care of the rest for you.
Google XML Sitemaps This plugin creates an XML sitemap for your blogs and also informs the major search engines when you update. This is a great plugin for getting content indexed fast.
Ping Optimizer This plugin prevents your blog from pinging everytime you make changes to a post or import scheduled posts.
SEO Smart Links This will automatically link to other related posts on your blogs and is great to increase the SEO and spiderability for the search engines.
Sociable Adds popular social bookmarking links to your blog posts so that visitors can bookmark them. Great for getting extra backlinks.
One thing we need to do is make this core blog look appealing. So to do that we need to install a Premium Theme.
This video shows a brief overview of WordPress themes:
To install themes you download to your computer, just use an FTP program such as FileZilla, upload it to your wp-content/themes folder on your hosting account and then activate the theme from within WordPress admin.
Next we move on to adding content to it and also discuss the types of content that will really get your blog moving forward and attracting those masses of readers.
With this core blog you should be aiming to update it as often as you can. Ideally you should post everyday but if this isnt possible then make sure you do it 2-3 times a week.
Once you get into a pattern, your readers will know what to expect. But if you are very random in posting, they might not want to stick around as they wont know when the next post will be coming.
So if you cant do it everyday, at least make a point of doing it the same number of times each week.
To keep your readers interest, a good idea is mixing up your types of posts. So here are some ideas of doing just that:
List Posts
List posts are very common and also very easy to create. Just come up with a list of several tips and write a few sentences for each one. Things such as:
7 Ways To Write Better Blog Posts
10 Steps To A Healthier Body
5 Ways To Cut Down On Your Calorie Intake
15 Tips To Getting The Job Of Your Dreams
Regular Article Post
Of course, when needed there is nothing wrong with adding a standard article to your blog. But rather than have 5 paragraphs, break them up into smaller chunks and add sub-heading throughout the post. This just makes it easier to read and wont get skimmed through by your readers.
How To Posts
Most people search online to find out how to do something. So if you write posts about how to do things in your niche, not only will you get traffic but you can also be seen as an authority because you are sharing your knowledge.
So think of things like:
How To Cut Down On Your Heating Bills
How To Burn More Calories Without Exercising
How To Pass Your Driving Test First Time
Just look for people asking questions in your niche (forums, Yahoo answers etc) and then write a blog post that solves the question. You can then go and post a link to your post if you wish.
Review Posts
Writing reviews of products or services can also add a lot of value to your blog. Have you used a product that your readers would be interested in themselves? Did it work like it said it would? Were you pleased with it?
Review posts can be very good ways of starting conversations via comments on your blog. People will share their own experiences of using the products and will post what they think about it.
You can of course earn money by linking to the product via an affiliate program (if they have one) but only do it if you genuinely liked the product and never say something is good just to earn some money.
To get your blog indexed in the search engines, you should:
1. Submit the homepage to Digg & Reddit
2. Submit the site with https://www.tradebit.com
3. Ping the blog using https://www.tradebit.com
Just these methods alone should see the blog indexed within 24-48 hours.
So in this first week, you are going to decide on a topic for your core blog and choose a domain name that will be used to launch it and then build it.
Here is what you should complete this week:
